About Us:

Hayling Island Youth Hub Project

There are an abundance of services available on Hayling Island for the elderly and young children, but little to  nothing for our youngsters aged 11 – 16 years.

The small amount of groups available are very expensive and not affordable for many families here on the Island.  Traveling off the Island is also very expensive.

Some of the youngsters are disruptive within our community; vandalising cars and property, leaving litter and causing disturbances. Probably due to boredom.

The Hub will provide  recreational and leisure time activities provided in the interest of social welfare, designed to improve their conditions of life; providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals

Many of these youngsters have chaotic home lives and do not like to engage with any authorities i.e. schools and other agencies. These youngsters also do not have access to a quiet space including equipment to do homework and projects etc. This is also something The Hub is looking to provide.

We intend to engage the services of Y services who will set up and support a youth forum that will be a focal point for consultation on the development of a youth project on Hayling. The principle outcome of this work would be initiating a credible forum for young people’s involvement and participation in the project. We will also visit the youngsters who congregate in the parks etc to engage with them and make them part of this process.

We also intend to involve the youngsters as much as possible and are going to setup a Youth Committee who will help to run the Hub. We will encourage the youngsters to take an active part in the running of The Hub by becoming volunteers.

Many thanks for your support.

Issy Scott
